Friday December 6th 2019 is the monthly meeting of the Lima Astronomical Society at Schoonover Observatory. A short business meeting will take place followed by a program on the Northeast Astronomy Forum outside New York City by Michael Ritchie.

The Mercury Transit at Schoonover Observatory Monday November 11th, 2019 has been CANCELLED!
The weather forecast has changed for the worst so there is no chance of a break in the clouds.
Our internet connection is not good enough to allow us to view a real time broadcast of the Transit otherwise we would stay open.
If you still want to see the Transit then search for a internet broadcast of the Mercury Transit. There are a number of sites that will broadcast it.

The Lima Astronomical Society will open Schoonover Observatory at 7:00 am Monday November 11th, 2019 for the much anticipated Mercury Transit across the Sun.
A special Astro Video Camera and safe Solar filter will be used with a telescope to project the Transit to our 60 inch 4k monitor in the meeting room. Other telescopes with safe solar filters will be setup on the observation deck for the public to view the transit visually.
Mercury Transits are fairly rare so we are hoping for clear skies to give the public the opportunity to see this Mercury Transit. The transit starts at 7:36am and ends at 1:04pm. The next Mercury Transit visible in Ohio won't be until May 7th, 2049. ...
Friday November 1st, 2019 at 8:00pm is the monthly meeting of the Lima Astronomical Society at Schoonover Observatory. This is an important meeting as we elect the officers for the coming year. Nominations are still open until the vote is taken. Nominate who you feel will lead the society into the new year.
The Mercury Transit will happen on November 11th so we will be discussing what preperations we will need to do to have the Observatory open to the public. The Transit starts at 7:36am and ends at 1:04pm.
Members of the Lima Area UFO Research Associates will provide the program this month. Come ask your questions or share any expierences you have on this fascinating subject.
